Our Approach: Structured. Transparent. Sustainable.
Accessibility projects rarely fail due to a lack of intent — more often, they fail due to a lack of structure. Our process is designed so that you always know where you stand, what comes next, and what you'll have at the end. It's modular: phases can be commissioned individually, and many projects start with an analysis and develop from there. It's also built for sustainability — we empower your team rather than just delivering short-term fixes. Preparation for real external audits is always included.
Phase 1: Kick-off & Baseline Assessment
We don't start with a presentation about accessibility — we start by understanding your product and your situation. In a joint kick-off with all relevant stakeholders — development, design, content, and project leads — we define the target conformance level (e.g. WCAG 2.1 AA), the legal framework (BFSG, BITV 2.0, and any applicable state laws), and the audit scope in accordance with WCAG-EM 2.0: which pages, templates, and user journeys will be reviewed.
The result is a clear project plan with milestones and a stakeholder matrix — not a document that ends up in a drawer.
Phase 2: Accessibility Analysis
The analysis combines automated and manual testing. We use established tools (including axe DevTools, Lighthouse, and WAVE) and supplement these with manual WCAG checks: keyboard tests, screen reader tests with NVDA, JAWS, VoiceOver, and TalkBack, as well as end-to-end tests of key user journeys.
The result is a structured accessibility report with an executive summary, prioritized findings, severity ratings, and where applicable, screenshots and code examples — understandable for decision-makers, actionable for developers.
Phase 3: Prioritization & Roadmap
Not all findings are equally urgent. We develop a three-tier roadmap:
- Critical Fixes: Blockers and Level A violations that must be addressed immediately
- Compliance: Full conformance with WCAG 2.1 AA
- Excellence: Process integration, training, and automation
We also provide an effort estimate, a cost-benefit analysis, and a risk assessment — so you can make informed decisions, not just react.
Phase 4: Implementation
Implementation takes place in two-week sprints with clear deliverables: semantic HTML, correct ARIA implementation, focus management, accessible components, and content adjustments. In parallel, we integrate accessibility tests into your CI/CD pipeline so that new issues are caught before they go live.
Phase 5: Documentation & Enablement
Alongside implementation, all necessary documents are produced: accessibility statement, WCAG reports, editorial guidelines, and developer documentation. We also offer training for all roles involved — so your team can maintain accessibility independently after the project concludes, without needing to call us every time.
Phase 6: Pre-Audit & Audit Support
Before an external audit, we conduct a full re-test — including cross-browser and screen reader checks — and provide a clear go/no-go recommendation. On request, we can provide technical support during the audit itself and assist with the evaluation and follow-up of findings.
Long-Term Quality Assurance
Accessibility is not a one-time project. We offer continuous monitoring and regular office hours — so your digital products remain conformant and usable in the long run, even as your application grows and evolves.
